Anonymous asked: Why should one follow his will?
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
I apologize for the delay in answering your question. My energies have been elsewhere as of late.
This is the wrong question. A person will follow their will whether they realize it or not. The appropriate question is: Why should a person cultivate an awareness of their will? And, each person is likely to answer that question differently. But, underlying the different answers is one common thread. Namely, a person who is aware of their will acts with greater authenticity.
It’s simple, really. Without awareness of their will, a person goes through life doing as their told, plodding the rut laid out for them by their facticity, barely more than an automaton. However, once they are aware of their will, they can begin to make choices that better reflect what they truly desire. They become more capable of taking control over their life through shaping it in accordance to their will; removing obstacles that stood in their way. And, they begin to take responsibility for their choices. All of these things lead to greater authenticity. As I’ve stated many times before, Thelema is essentially existentialism a la Crowley.
Love is the law, love under will.
